Mayoral Term Limits
Councilmember Donald Torres talks about the importance of placing term limits for future Mayors. “Term limits breed competition. I think that competition is a diversity of opinions and I think that diversity of opinions ultimately helps out our democracy and our city,” Torres said. Councilmember Torres was the deciding vote to place term limits on the 2022 ballot which was passed overwhelmingly by Stanton voters.

Efforts for Campaign Finance Reform
Stanton’s newly seated City Council voted 3–2 to repeal a campaign finance ordinance that would have imposed some of Orange County’s strictest limits on campaign contributions and conflicts of interest. Councilmember Donald Torres voted to keep the reforms, arguing they were needed to reduce the influence of special interests and make it easier for everyday residents to run for office.
